Information and directional systems in the educational space

A well-planned wayfinding, or visual information system, is an essential part of an establishment’s visual identity. It helps students, teachers and visitors easily find their way around the building, reduces stress levels and improves the quality of daily operations.

The main elements of signage include:

  • Identification of rooms and organizational units – including classrooms, studios, offices, libraries, common rooms;
  • Signage for common spaces – at elevators, toilets, in corridors and relaxation areas;
  • Space Branding – graphic and color elements that give the space a unique, friendly character.

University, school and kindergarten signage - information carriers

The most commonly used information and branding mediums for educational institutions are:

  • Wall and facade plaques
  • Door plates
  • Pendant boards – installed most often in passageways
  • Free-standing pylons – mounted, for example, on the first floor in the main hall
  • Painted and pasted graphics
  • Decorative wallpaper

Kindergarten signage - visual communication with the little ones

In pre-school facilities, signage serves not only an informational function , but also an educational one. Children who cannot yet read recognize space mainly through colors, symbols and illustrations. That’s why cheerful pictograms, such as icons of animals, toys or colorful group markings dominate in kindergartens. Such a system promotes the child’s independence and gives the space a warm, friendly character.

The informational signage itself, in this case, should be tailored especially to the youngest and harmonize with the adopted theme. Larger fonts, clear and unambiguous messages, as well as universal symbolism, are of great importance here.

School signage - functionality and aesthetics

Signage in schools plays many roles simultaneously – from informational and housekeeping functions, to supporting safety and traffic management in the building, as well as the immediate surroundings. Unlike in kindergartens, where the message must be largely pictorial, in schools it is already necessary to take into account the varying perceptions of students of different ages – from early grades to older adolescents.

Also of particular importance in schools are evacuation signs , quiet zones (e.g. in libraries), as well as information on the layout of classrooms, checkrooms, cafeteria or common room. Their clarity directly affects the smooth movement of students and the organization of the work of teachers and technical staff.

Higher education signage - a consistent system on a large scale

At universities, the challenge is scale – multi-story buildings, dispersed campuses and a multitude of functions. Here, the key is to create a consistent signage system that includes both physical signs and signposts, as well as digital tools – such as mobile apps for campus navigation.

Educational institutions often operate on a tight budget, so it is worth betting on materials that are durable and aesthetically pleasing, but at the same time economical – such as dibond, foamed PVC or composites. They allow the implementation of professional projects at a reasonable cost.

Comprehensive signage - from concept to installation

We comprehensively implement signage projects for educational institutions – from concept to installation. The process of cooperation includes:

  1. Audit and needs analysis – taking into account the specifics of the facility, user groups and the environment;
  2. Graphic design – consistent with the architecture and character of the facility;
  3. Design of the signage system – with a map of the location of signs and signposts;
  4. Production and assembly – using digital printing technology, guaranteeing durability and aesthetics.
