Mobile data terminals - what are they and why are they so useful?
Mobile data terminals, also known as data collectors or mobile computers, are advanced computing devices that enable direct operator interaction with a WMS (Warehouse Management System). These devices feature a compact design, high computing performance and the ability to read barcodes, 2D and RFID. They are available in various configurations: in the form of a gun (gun), brick type (similar to a smartphone) and as wearable computers (wearable computers).
Thanks to integration with WMS class systems, such as DigitIO WMS, it is possible to handle all warehouse processes comprehensively – from receipt of goods, through storage, picking, to the release of goods from the warehouse.

What tasks do mobile data terminals perform?
1. fast and accurate work
The mobile terminal allows instant data transfer between the operator and the WMS, regardless of the location of the operation. With built-in barcode, 2D and RFID readers, the process of product identification becomes fully automatic and virtually eliminates the risk of mistakes.
2. optimization of warehouse processes
Terminals significantly speed up the order picking and shipping process, especially in the context of e-commerce logistics. The use of barcodes and automatic identification of goods minimizes the possibility of operator error.
3. real-time view of stock levels
With data collectors, it is possible to record and confirm operations in real time. This allows for real-time control of inventory, which has a positive effect on the efficiency of order processing and increases customer satisfaction.

4. increase efficiency of employees
Equipping each employee with a mobile terminal makes it possible to monitor the efficiency of their work, track the progress of tasks and analyze the time taken to perform individual operations.
5 Universal application
Mobile terminals are ideal for changing warehouse conditions. They are used in cold stores (cold storage), on forklifts (forklift terminal), and even in hazardous areas (e.g. APEX terminal).
6 Integration with warehouse infrastructure
Mobile computers can be easily integrated with other equipment used in warehouses, such as label printers, Cubiscan product sizing systems, code scanners and label applicators.
