Key information:
WMS system
(Warehouse Management System, WMS) is an IT tool that supports internal logistics processes. The idea behind the use of WMS systems is to introduce a task-based system that will take control over the organization of warehouse workers and warehouse automation in order to increase efficiency, reduce errors and optimize the used warehouse space.
WMS - licensing methods
In business practice, there are two most common ways of licensing WMS systems (both forms of licensing are also available within the WMS systems offered by HKK Group).
Perpetual license: the most common form of licensing for information systems, including WMS-class systems. This form of license acquisition is associated with a high startup rate-the buyer buys the right to use the license before the system is launched. In subsequent years of use, the only cost associated with the operation of the WMS may be the purchase of support services (support&maintenance).
Subscription licensing: this form of storage system licensing is characterized by the fact that no license needs to be purchased before using the system. The license is leased and the fee is paid monthly. This form of licensing the warehouse management system reduces the initial investment cost.
WMS class system - installation and configuration costs
Both WMS systems purchased in traditional and subscription form need to be installed and personalized. This type of service is performed during the implementation project, the basis of which is a solid analysis of logistics processes, which becomes a map for the implementation of the warehouse system.
The cost of the implementation work depends on the complexity of the logistics processes. We offer our customers “all-inclusive” packages, which include, in addition to the cost of implementation, the cost of the license and the hardware necessary to operate the WMS.
It is estimated that the implementation of a WMS class system, for a medium-sized warehouse, supported by 10 operators, together with hardware and connection to the ERP system is a net expense of about PLN 100,000 - 120,000.
Warehouse system equipment - mobile terminals, printers, warehouse signage systems
Proper commissioning of a WMS requires configuration not only of the system itself, but also of the
the automatic identification equipment
that will work with it. Each operator in the warehouse should be equipped with a
mobile terminal
, and in individual zones (e.g. shipping zone) should be installed
label printer
. Also essential to the operation of the warehouse is proper
marking of storage areas
, which can also be made by our company.
How much does a WMS cost?
The packages offered by HKK differ primarily in terms of the complexity of warehouse processes, the number of users, and the number of interfaces with external systems.
It is estimated that the implementation of a WMS class system, for a medium-sized warehouse, supported by 10 operators, together with hardware and connection to the ERP system is a net expense of about PLN 100,000 – 120,000.
